Duzce University, which was founded in March 17th, 2006 and accomplishing great things in a short period of time, has been conducting important educational activities as well as important work on scientific research, fields of social responsibility and regional development.
The rector of Duzce University for the 2015-2019 period is Prof. Dr. Nigar Demircan Çakar. Duzce University, who had 3 faculties and 5700 students in its early years, today attracts attention as a respectable and favoured institution of higher education with 14 faculties, 4 institutes, 2 junior colleges, 10 vocational junior colleges, a research hospital, a student body of nearly 30000 students, and a staff of 2500.
Duzce University harbours the Akçakoca Bey Faculty of Political Sciences, Faculties of Education, Arts and Sciences, Theology, Management, Engineering, Forestry, Health Sciences, Art Design and Architecture, Sports Sciences, Technical Education, Technology, Medicine, and Agriculture and Natural Sciences.
Making a name for itself in the scientific and developmental areas at national and international levels, Düzce University is rapidly advancing towards becoming a world university by winning the first and only European Entrepreneurship Award for Turkey from among 399 projects of 29 countries with the project “Birlikte Daha Fazlasını Yapabiliriz” (We can do more together).
Düzce University, which set out with the philosophy of “Value Creating University”, is dazzling with its success in education by preserving its leadership among public universities established after the year 2000, in the ranking of universities published by METU under URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance). In terms of ranking based on academic incentives, Düzce University is ranked 15th among the 100 public universities, improving its ranking by ten places in comparison to last year.
Düzce University, which does not only hold innumerable achievements in education and science but also in sports, earned the second place in Turkey in 2015-2016’s General Medal Rankings published by the Federation of University Sports of Turkey. Also with a total of 55 medals, Duzce University is rightfully proud of its achievements in sports, having achieved the highest number of medals among the 133 universities in Turkey.
Quality improvement operations carried out within the scope of the National Quality Movement in order to maintain institutionalisation and reinforce a transparent, participatory and merit-based management style in all units of Düzce University, have born fruit first with a 3-star, then with a 4-star Competency Certificate. The Institutional Internal Evaluation Report prepared by Düzce University, which continues its quality improvement operations, is the first among public universities in terms of scope and quality based on reports requested from the universities in the Republic of Turkey, Council of Higher Education; and bears the speciality of being the first state university to be subject to external inspection by Düzce University Higher Education Board of Quality making it also a pioneer among higher education institutions in quality improvement operations.
Düzce University is known as the university of firsts after establishing Turkey’s first Honey Forest, first Women’s Leadership Education and Mentorship Program, first Social Security Program, first Circassian Language and Literature Program, first Composite Material Technologies Graduate Program, first Beekeeping and Bee Products R&D Project Market, and first Vocational Schools Student Congress.
In order to create an institutional culture that lives through and sustains universal and social values like love, respect, honesty, transparency and justice, and to bring up students with love, for the first time as a course, ”Sevgi Dersi” (Course on Love) finds its place in Düzce University’s curriculum.
At Düzce University, which has adopted entrepreneurship as a principle and wants to imbue its students with entrepreneurship qualities, The Entrepreneurship course is included in the curriculum as an elective course in all units including the Faculty of Medicine. Students who successfully complete entrepreneurship courses take an important step towards their future by qualifying for entrepreneurial certification.
In order to create a transparent and participatory management culture, Düzce University regularly schedules an Open Door Day every month. All members of the university, especially the academic and administrative staff and students, express their issues, criticisms, observations, evaluations and suggestions on Open Door Day. Düzce University is an example to many institutions regarding institutionalisation with the Open Door Day.
At Düzce University, which acts upon the principle of “Our students are our raison d’etre,” besides the Open Door Day, all authorities, especially the Rector of the University, gather regularly with the students; and the participation of all students in improving the processes by listening to their opinions, suggestions and problems are given utmost importance.
Düzce University, which maintains its quality education with modern education al practices, holds programs titled “The Training of the Trainer” at certain times for the teaching staff in order to improve the knowledge and skills of the academicians as well as the students. These programs are aimed to develop the pedagogic qualities of academics by explaining the best methods of universal education practices.
Not only with its faculties and junior colleges, but also with its Research and Application Centers, Düzce University is at the forefront of important scientific centers in the region. Application and Research Center for Scientific and Technological Research (DÜBİT), which is a part of Düzce University, successfully performs all the analyses and measurement requirements needed by not only the university itself, but also by industrial and private institutions as well as public institutions in stages of research, product development and production.
The first Design Prototyping and Testing Center of the region, which was established within Düzce University’s Application and Research Center for Scientific and Technological Research, successfully performs many technological operations such as designing and testing prototypes of industrial products utilising its technological infrastructure and modern 3D printers. The centre, which has a high production potential of added-value, becomes a centre of attraction in the fields of R&D and innovation.
The Düzce University Beekeeping Research and Development Center (DAGEM) has been contributing to the scientific world with an important work on “Non-Biting Bee” project. Also with products produced by DAGEM such as honey, propolis, pollen and royal jelly reach the consumers with the registered brand of DAGEM.
As an innovative, entrepreneurial and dynamic higher education institution, Düzce University is working enthusiastically in the area of education and scientific research as well as in the field of social services and it provides significant contributions to regional development.
Within the scope of the “Regional Development Based Mission Differentiation and Specialization” project prepared with the cooperation of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and Ministry of Development, Düzce University has become the location for regional development by being selected from among 40 universities to be one of the five universities to be especially encouraged and supported.
Receiving the distinction of being supported by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the field of health and environment, Düzce University is turning its action plans related to the issues into projects. Düzce University, which has established the Specialization Coordination in Environment and Health Technologies, strengthens mutual cooperation by bringing together local and external shareholders in the Promotion Programs for Studies Focusing on Regional Development.
Düzce University has been working on nearly 60 projects among which are “Industrial Recycling of Agricultural Waste” and “Traditional and Complementary Medicine” in the field of environment. Düzce University is excited to be transforming wastes of many agricultural produces such as hazelnuts, rice, maize via the project of “Industrial Recycling of Agricultural Waste”.
On the other hand, in the field of “Traditional and Complementary Medicine,” Düzce University aims to reduce health costs, increase the number of treatment options and reveal the potential for health tourism in the region; continues to rapidly engage in the setting up of the projects of “Traditional and Complementary Medical Application and Research Centre” and “Application and Research Centre for Industrial Recycling of Agricultural Waste”.

Düzce University, which has signed the cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, along with PAGEV and Düzce TSO for the Organized Industrial Zone for Toy Production to be established in Düzce, now has a say in domestic, national and universal toy production. Düzce University, which is one of the important actors of nationalised toy production, provides support with its partners in a symposium titled “Our Values, Culture and Children: The National Toy” and Project Market and Launching meetings to be organised afterwards, in order to actualise Turkey’s national toy project by all means. The Design Prototyping and Testing Centre at Düzce University, which will provide technological support to manufacturers during both design and prototyping procedures, continues to work full-throttle for the Organized Industrial Zone for Toy Production which is expected to generate 2000 jobs and aimed to create a turnover of millions of dollars.
Düzce University, which is incessantly improving its technological infrastructure, offers its students a modern campus life with its physical investments as well. The new investments in the likes of Mehmet Akif Ersoy Centre for Education and Culture which was completed in 2016, University Car Park, Animal Laboratory, covering of the University Stadium, constructing the Cumayeri Vocational School building with the support of Pakmaya firm stand out as accomplishments.
Investments, such as the University Mosque which will be the biggest in all of Düzce, Akçakoca Bey Building of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Health Sciences Faculty Building and Düzce University’s Additional Hospital Building, where the best treatment opportunities will be provided, are carried out in the fastest manner possible.
With their investment processes initiated; the Library, which can house up to 4,000 students working simultaneously, the Botanical Garden which will include waterfalls, bridges and a multitudinous variety of plants, the additional Dining Hall, the indoor football pitch, the living area and student life centers to be built in the shape of star and crescent, and finally the Düzce Teknopark building which will be the centre of entrepreneurship and innovation of the region with its capacity of 160 offices, are projected to be opened in future periods.
